Earth Hour Champions

Congratulations to the students and staff at St. Angela Merici CES! We are so proud to share that they have been awarded First Place in the City of Vaughan’s Earth Hour Banner Competition.

This year, the City of Vaughan invited students from the YCDSB and York Region District School Board to share their vision for the future of our planet through creative banner designs. Out of seven entries, St. Angela Merici鈥檚 submission rose to the top, a wonderful reflection of the creativity, talent and environmental awareness that our students bring to everything they do.

In recognition of this accomplishment, the school received a certificate signed by Steven Del Duca, Mayor of Vaughan, along with a $250 prize. The winning banners were displayed at Vaughan City Hall during this year’s Earth Hour celebration.

Congratulations to grade 7 students Sofia Antoniazzi, Sophia Merenda, Ave Torbidone, Elise Manase, Ire Folorunso, Ariel Mckenzie, and to the teachers who supported them throughout this project, Mrs. Fini and Mrs. Salini!

We also want to thank the City of Vaughan for providing so many opportunities for our students to get involved in environmental initiatives. Partnerships like this one help young people connect their learning to the wider community and inspire them to become thoughtful stewards of our planet.

2026-Easter

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
鈥 Psalm 118:24

Dear 草莓社区 (草莓社区) Students, Staff and Families,

As we approach the Easter season, we are invited to pause and reflect on the profound joy that faith brings to our lives. Easter is at the heart of the Catholic faith. This is a time when we celebrate hope, renewal and God鈥檚 transformative love. Easter shows us that the Lord is always with us, so we always have a reason to be joyful.

I want to recognize how 草莓社区 schools bring joy to our wider community every year through their ShareLife fundraising. ShareLife Week occurred last week throughout the YCDSB, and this was our way of helping the tens of thousands of people who are fed, housed and supported by ShareLife-funded agencies. Last year, the YCDSB donated $128,000 to ShareLife, which is an incredible testament to your commitment to living your faith by helping others.

The YCDSB community is defined by its people who understand how Catholic education can change lives. What makes this community truly special is you: the care and commitment you bring to it every day. Thank you for making the YCDSB what it is.

On behalf of the YCDSB, I wish you and your loved ones a blessed Easter. May this holy season fill your hearts with hope and joy.

Yours in Catholic Education,听

Jennifer Sarna
Interim Director of Education
